Valley View High School
Extracurricular Clubs & Activities
Extracurricular activities are a rewarding addition to the
student's education. Valley View students are
encouraged to participate in at least one club activity.
Art Club
Meets: Second Tuesday of each month in Room B-221
Grades: 9 through 12
Purpose: Enrichment class for interested students enrolled in art courses.
Drama Club
Meets: Second Wednesday of each month.
Grades:9 through 12
Purpose: To enable students interested in the theater to be active in all aspects of producing a play.
French Club
Meets: Third Tuesday Room B-107
Grades: 9 through 12
Purpose: The club meets monthly and aims to increase the students'
interest in studying language. The culture, history, and geography of the country
are presented by means of projects, games, and programs.
Italian Club
Meets: First Tuesday of the month in Room B-109
Grades:9 through 12
Purpose: The Italian Club is open to students presently taking
Italian or those who have already completed a year or two of the language. The
club aims to enhance the student in the language, culture, etc., of the
country by means various projects and games.
Library Club
Meets: One Tuesday a month upon the discretion of the advisor.
Grades:9 through 12
Purpose: To make the student aware of the organization and
administration of the school library.
Manufacturing & Production Club
Meets: First Monday of the month in the Wood Shop.
Grades:9 through 12
Purpose: To enable students enrolled in Industrial Arts to become
part of an organization, which will allow them to become more aware of the needs
of industry.
Math Honor Society
Meets: Monthly at the discretion of the advisors.
Grades: 11 and 12
Purpose: Provides peer tutoring to students after school on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 2:30 to 3:00 p.m..
National Honor Society
Meets: Monthly at the discretion of the advisors.
Grades: 10 through 12
Purpose: To plan and implement service projects that benefit our school and community. The NHS aims to develop and nuture the qualities of character, leadership, scholarship and service in its members.
PJAS
Meets: Thursdays in Room A-210
Grades: 9 through 12
Purpose:
- To promote greater participation in science activities among high school students.
- To provide opportunities for the development of students as thinking people.
- To encourage students to participate in science research and to develop original ideas.
- To aid in the development of the whole person by participating in regional and state meetings.
- To develop an understanding of and to further ones knowledge by close association with leaders in scientific disciplines.
SADD
Meets: First Thursday of each month.
Grades:9 through 12
Purpose: To alert high school students to the dangers of drinking
and driving and destructive behavior.
Scholastic Team
Meets: During the school day.
Grades: 12
Purpose: To compete against teams from other high schools of
Northeastern Pennsylvania on radio and television programs in order to
demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of academic material.
Ski Club
Meets: Every Wednesday during ski season.
Grades:9 through 12
Purpose: To foster an interest in the outdoors through
the enjoyment of skiing. Underlying this purpose is the need for students to be
physically fit. Also, there is an obligation to show the student that he/she can
accomplish in proportion to what he attempts.
Spanish Club
Meets: Monthly in the cafeteria.
Grades:9 through 12
Purpose: The Spanish club is designed for students who have completed Spanish 2 and intend on enrolling in upper-level Spanish courses. The purpose of the club is to promote cultural awareness and immersion of the Spanish language.
Student Council
Meets: Bi-monthly or call of the president in Drafting Room.
Grades: 9 through 12
Purpose: To represent the student body by listening to its needs
and concerns. The council conducts activites to help the school administration
more fully understand the students.
